A backlink is any link from other websites back to your own (sometimes called “inbound links”). If you offer original content sometimes people will want to share that content to their own platform or website. You can think of this like they are referring people back to you. Backlinks are an important part of SEO as Google looks at the amount of inbound links as the amount of trust others have in your content or business. Part of backlinking is often to search for relevant blogs, youtube videos, or other content that already gets a lot of views by your target audience and reaching out to that platform or company and seeing if they would write a blog post about your business or some content you have made. Being proactive and intentional about acquiring backlinks to your website will greatly increase your traffic and position on Google. You can also make your own backlinks by making your own relevant content separate from your business and linking it back to your business website. Keeping up to date and evaluating more avenues to acquire backlinks is a must for any business that wants to grow and succeed in an increasingly digital world.
